What I did to prepare my baby for her maiden swim…

In order to prepare my baby for her maiden swim, I began to encourage her to “play with water” during her bath.

Often, I would trickle water on her head so that the water flowed down her face. This is to allow her to get used to water on her face so as to build confidence and help her overcome fear (if any) of water slowly.

I would judge her response to water and if she exhibited strong reaction at first, I would slow down the learning process.

After doing this for about 2 weeks, my baby was quite comfortable during her maiden swim. In fact, she accidentally swollowed some water during her swim but she took it very well. Coughed out the water and went on to play with the water… :)

If you are thinking of trying the method, please do it slowly at first. Judge your child’s reaction and pace the learning process. Happy swimming!
